Transforming Highlands Agriculture: Yellow Palm Limited’s Livestock Development Project

In the rugged heart of Hela Province, Papua New Guinea, Yellow Palm Limited, an indigenous-owned enterprise, is quietly leading a transformative initiative set to revolutionize the region. This groundbreaking project aims to create income opportunities for local communities, generate employment for nationals and expatriates, and contribute significantly to national economic development and self-reliance.

The cornerstone of this initiative is a community-focused livestock development project. Yellow Palm Limited is establishing a cattle farming operation supported by a fully equipped abattoir and storage facilities to meet PNG’s growing demand for beef. Historically, PNG’s land tenure system—where land is communally owned—has hindered large-scale commercial grazing, leaving the country reliant on imported beef.

Despite these challenges, Yellow Palm Limited is leveraging its strong history of farmer engagement to pioneer an innovative solution. The company plans to partner with individuals, families, and clans in the North Koroba and Koroba Kopiago Districts, adopting an African-inspired communal herding model. Alongside its own cattle farming operations, Yellow Palm Limited is poised to meet and exceed market production quotas, ensuring a sustainable beef supply that aligns with evolving consumer needs.

Recognizing the significant energy demands of this ambitious project, Yellow Palm Limited is also integrating a renewable energy solution into its infrastructure. The company is developing a 20MWp + 10MW++BB Solar Power Project to support its operations. Initially, 1MWp will power farm and livestock activities, with surplus energy sold in bulk to PNG Power Limited, contributing clean energy to the national grid as connectivity expands to Koroba and Fugwa.

Yellow Palm Limited’s holistic approach to agriculture and energy represents a bold step toward economic independence, community empowerment, and sustainability in Papua New Guinea.

About Us

Yellow Palm Limited: Empowering Communities, Driving Progress

Yellow Palm Limited, a proudly indigenous and independently owned business, began its journey in 2015 with a vision to transform lives in Hela Province. From humble beginnings as a farming enterprise, we established a platform through our Farmers Out-Grower Scheme, enabling village farmers to earn sustainable incomes and participate in economic growth.

Over the years, our commitment to community empowerment and innovation has fueled our expansion into diverse sectors, including business consulting, financial services, printing and stationery supplies, property development, and vehicle hire. This growth reflects our dedication to creating economic opportunities for rural communities while maintaining our roots in agricultural development.

In line with our vision to create lasting impact, we are embarking on an ambitious cattle farming project to address the growing demand for quality beef in Hela Province and across Papua New Guinea. By empowering landowners and partnering with out-grower farmers, this project not only fosters local self-reliance but also establishes Yellow Palm Limited as PNG’s first indigenous beef producer.

With a focus on community-driven progress and sustainable growth, Yellow Palm Limited continues to champion opportunities for ordinary Papua New Guineans while positioning itself as a leader in the nation’s agricultural and economic landscape.
